Eco Community
Better In Belize is an exclusive ecovillage resort community located in the tropical rainforest jungle of Belize’s Cayo district. The property is located along the beautiful Macal river with forest reserves on either side and the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve just across the river.
Our ecovillage is a mere 2 hour drive from the Airport and 15 minutes from the nearest town, and will contain the best of both the natural and the modern worlds. The 130 acre property will comprise of house lots with 50% earmarked as green space.
The most unique feature will be a commitment to ecological sustainability. Power requirements for the community will be generated by a hydro-power system which will be installed in the Macal river. In addition to this hydro unit there will be solar power and solar hot water.
Each house will be given the option to install rain harvesting equipment to store rainwater which is 100% safe for drinking. The main water source will be filtered water from the Macal River.
There will be plenty of trees, wildlife, trails, and other amenities.
Eco-school
30 acres have already been set aside for building an eco-school to teach high school level curriculum intermixed with ecology, technology, and self empowerment courses. The eco-school will also host educational workshops and courses for various speakers and teachers who wish to hold such events. We will also be host to other non-profit organizational studies and groups involved in ecology.
Community/Conference Center:
The Community Center we are planning will be designed to accommodate group functions for up to 125 people. Equipped with state-of-the-art audio/visual technology and lighting, the Center will be ideal for business and social gatherings (ie, conferences, workshops, potlucks, parties, music events, weddings, reunions, banquets, AGM’s, etc).
Business Center:
For those of you who like to stay in touch with friends, family and business associates, our proposed business center will make that a breeze. We plan to provide the latest in computer hardware, communications software, and FAX. Secretarial services will also be available for those doing business in Belize. Wireless internet connection will be available so that you can connect with the rest of the world from your patch of paradise
The River:The Macal River is a prime attraction of the Better in Belize community. The river has three tiers of waterfalls which are short falls but incredibly beauiful. Swim, go rafting, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, or simply spend your time under a shady tree watching the parade of magnificent wildlife - especially the birds.
Other Activities:
There are as many outdoor activities as your imagination can generate. Jungle treks, mountain biking, bird watching, tubing, caving, socializing with other residents and locals or visiting some of the local Mayan temple sites.
Other Amenities:
There will also be satellite television available in the community as well as having telephone service with free calls to the US and Canada.
